Has anyone sewed on terry cloth ? Any tips ?

I did many years ago, and if I remember correctly, I wound up sandwiching it between two layers of paper. Don't remember much about that, except for a strong aversion to every sewing with Terry Cloth again!!

I made a hooded baby towel with it a few years ago and did not enjoy working with it. The towel came out distorted due to stretching of fabric as I sewed and I came to the conclusion that buying a hooded towel would have been a better choice.

When embroidering on terry cloth, I use a sticky back stabilizer on the bottom and a couple of layers of water soluble on top to keep the fabric from shifting and the stitches from sinking into the terry cloth on top. If I were to sew terry cloth, I thing I would use the same method or at least the sticky back stabilizer. I would probably use tissue paper on top and lower the pressure on my feed dogs.

I don't mind it as long as it isn't the stretchy kind. I buy the woven kind and make my own towels because I like HUGE but not too thick towels. I get it at Joanns and it HAS to be prewashed or your hems will be crooked.

Save yourself a BIG HEADACHE and don't use terry cloth. It is a nightmare waiting to happen!!!
