Okay, survey time... do you use mostly solid or patterned fabric for your quilting?
This question popped into my head last week when I was waiting in line for the cutting table at Joanne's. They are moving stores, so had a 75% off closeout. The lady behind me had tons of solids, I had tons of patterns. Needless to say, she "inspired" me to go get some colors (at $1.25 a yard, who can say no??)
I can't wait to read your responses!

I usually only buy solid black, I prefer tone on tones or other blenders. :D:D:D

I usually stay away from solids. I much prefer tone on tones.

I also like tone on tones as many of these "read" as a solid and I think they add more interest and eye movement to your quilt. However, if you have really busy blocks, a solid coloured sashing is exactly what you need. If you have the luxury of both at $1.25 a yard, why not?

Tone on tone. Except at times a solid black.

I use a lot of solids with patterns.
I can't stand a busy look so that works best for me.
I'm trying to change but it's not working well!

Mostly patterns with some solid for sash, background, etc. I like tone on tone too but I have a Kona solids color card so I can find the exact color I need in that brand.

I use both, maybe a little more patterned. When I started quilting I used 2 solid and 1 patterned because solid was cheaper.

I rarely use a true solid fabric. I just don't like them. I prefer tone on tones or something like that.

I usually let the project determine the backing.
