The recent blizzard that has affected so many states brought to mind my mother's vivid recollections of the Armistice Day Blizzard (Nov. 11-12, 1940) that hit the Midwest. The ability we have now to accurately predict such events is amazing. Back then, no warning - many hunters were caught in the fields resulting in an unfortunate loss of life. Does any one on here remember this storm? I'm sure every region of the country has a weather event that is remembered and then passed down for generation to generation. I'd love to hear some of the stories.

My parents told stories of the storms in Northwestern Iowa in that era. I can't imagine a tunnel to the barn. I know when I was born, the doctor drove his Model T as far as he could and my father picked him up with mules. And that was in March.

My memory only goes back to the blizzard of '78 for the midwest.
