OK, since I found this board, I am not getting much done around the house. I just can't seem to walk away from my computer! There's WAY too much information for me to learn, and WAY too many gorgeous quilts shown here.

The latest round of pictures has made me wonder, are all whole-cloth quilts made with trapunto? I really love the simplicity and elegance of these quilts, and thought maybe I'd try a small one that I can hand-quilt. The trapunto kinda intimidates me, especially when I see the gorgeous ones on this list. :  I'd really love to learn more.

Thanks, and hope you are all staying warm!

Trina

Trina, I've hand quilted several whole cloth quilts - fabric I just couldn't cut into mostly - and I find that you can "puff" areas just by quilting. You can always stuff some batting or filler in later if you want it more pronounced. Have fun with it. I love to do the designs most!

I don't think they have to have trapunto. I have a whole cloth quilt, store bought, that is just the quilting. I think I like the ones just have the design of the quilting, not the puffiness of trapunto.

A whole cloth quilt by definition is trapunto. The design of the quilt is in the stitching. It's not that difficult to learn if you buy one of the pre-printed trapunto quilt tops. Try this website: http://quiltingstencils.com/cribwallhangingpillows.aspx

Nope they are not. Also there are several ways to do trapunto so you can do some investigation.

I did a wholecloth, no trapunto. It's your choice.

Ohhh, this is a great site! I did see, however, that shipping is almost $10! Anybody have any coupons for this site? I did actually bookmark this from last night when I did a search on this board on whole cloth quilts.

I do wholecloths, but I have never added trapunto so far.You can create structure and contrast only by the quilting without additional stuffing.
