I visited my sister this past week-end and we stopped at a Cross Ministries Thrift shop.....I was talking to the clerk and told her I was always looking for old sewing machines. One of the guys said they had a bunch out in the sheds....I said to my sister "wouldn't it be great if they had the black 301 I have been looking for" The first portable he pulled out and opened made me catch my breath! there is was and in beautiful shape! I also got a Singer Fashion Mate (not so old) I LOVE the Singer 301!!!!!! Oh, and the price. They were asking $5 each-----I gave them alittle more and got wished a "blessed day" How is that for a great bargain? They both work great!

My very first sewing machine was a Fashion Mate exactly identical to that. When DD was in high school she took it (with my permission) to home ec. class and it got broke!
