Default Early for a change.

Had my Mamo appt. today. Got there at five to eight, was greeted by "oh, your an early bird".
Took me back and as I was getting ready she politely told me my appt. was for 8:30. I am never early for anything. She took me anyway, and was finished by 8:10.

I like to get it over and done with too. I am hoping my next one will be the digital one that shows more detail.

I try to get an early start where ever I go. Getting up early for work got me in the habit.

I need to schedule one. You know, we can have major surgery done by tiny instruments or even laser. Why can't they invent a different method of doing mammograms, maybe like they do sonograms. Last time I went, they did have the digital readout but you still have to be pulled, pushed and squished. I think I'll mention this to my son who is an OB-GYN. Wouldn't it be great if he could invent a better way?? LOL

They can do ultrasounds of the breast (I have had it done) but for fast, cheap screening of the most women, mammos are still the answer. Sorry.

I just had mine, the lady was very good, it was the easiest one I ever had. My medical center has had digital for awhile now, so they can look at it right away and see if they need another view or whatever. Plus they use the foam pad for a little comfort.

I just had mine and it was the "New 3D Mammogram, Breast Tomosynthesis." It was the old squish against hard plastic, no foam pad for comfort, but it's not too bad. The tech told me they have only had this 3D for about a month. She took me back to show me the computer after it was done and showed me how they can move the image and get the 3D view. It was cool. She said it helps them see the difference between a mass and just normal tissue.

@ Barking-rabbit: I guess that was a good feeling being early??

That is one advantage to being scheduled early in the day! I just realized I scheduled my next doctor's appointment at 7:30. that means I have to use an alarm clock!

About 15 years ago I joined the Women's Health Initiative. Very good move as they insisted I have a mamo. each year. I am not the kind of person that would pick up the phone and make an appointment without being pushed. I retired in 2000. I went in for my appt. early 2001. They wanted me to come back for a second one and then a bio. When I went in for the bio, I didn't know I was going to have a 3rd "mamo." I was apprehensive anyway. The tech pushed, pulled, twisted and we were both huffing and puffing. After all this was not just a snap for my photo album.
Finally she said to stand still and try not to breathe, she had to go get the Dr. for something. She came back an eternity later, madder than '?'. She had to let me down. the Dr. had decided to go across the street for a Starbuck. Talk about having your ---- in a ringer. I laugh at it now but then I was scarred. I did have cancer and so the next six months I enjoyed the joys of second surgery, chemo and radiation. But I am a survivor, thanks to WHI it was detected in the early stages and God, true to His word rather than keeping me from such trouble was with me all the way.

It was nice to be early for a change. God bless those who have endured their breast problems.

Going in next month for mine. I am a couple of years over due. Since my mom had breast cancer I wanted to get it done though. Especially since they told her it was caused by not enough estrogen in her body. I am in full blown menopause so I am hoping I get a good doc that will be able and willing to discuss my estrogen concerns at the same time. With moving in the army I always have to try new docs. the last one I had was great. Just loved her and in fact she is the one that found my osteoporosis at the age of 42. Full blown in my lower back and hips. My young 40s have not been kind to me at all. I started menopause at the age of 40 and osteoporoses at the age of 42. gained 35 pounds and all my kids are now taller than me. I can't keep a straight face when I am yelling at my son who is taller than I am now. Just does not seem right to point my finger over my head at him. I so use emotional blackmail on him now. (( shhh don't tell him ) it works better than yelling at him.
