Default Memory Quilt Size ??

I'm making a T-shirt quilt for my niece who lost her father 18 months ago and her mother this week. Question - what do you all think would be the best size? Lap/Throw for use around the house when watching TV etc. or a bed quilt. I tend to only make bed sized quilts, but I think for this she may use it more on a daily basis to have close.

Had to get the tissues. Am sending prayers from the Gulf to help her get through this horrible ordeal. Bless her heart! I would make it about (depending on how tall she is). I am working on one for DH. He's 6'2". I call it a couch quilt.

I'm (slowly, slowly) making one for myself, out of my father's clothes. I'm going to make mine throw sized, because I'll spend time with a quilt that size much more often then I will a bed-sized quilt.

With one, a person is mostly conscious. With the other, a person is mostly unconscious. I'd make the throw. Also, you can always bring a throw to bed with you and toss it on top.

Such a heartbreak. Sending prayers for all of you!

I would make it more of a lap quilt, nice to drag around with and cuddle up in. Follows you, where ever you go.

Definitely lap sized. I've made several memory quilts and everyone I've given them to has said that they love sitting on the couch with it on their lap. They can stroke the fabrics and remember their loved ones. They can't do that if they're sleeping.

I agree- larger lap sized... I made memory quilts for my children from my XH's clothes. They may not get snuggled up to all the time, but they are there when the kids need them.

I've made a couple of bed size (one is ours) and my husband has said when he's on his death bed, he absolutely wants that quilt covering him.
I've made several throw size from large baby up to 'couch' size. i think from now on that's the size i'm sticking with for these. Good luck and prayers to your family for their losses.
