I was in my quilt shop today and found out they were going to be closing. It's almost like losing a friend because I had been going there for a year and the great staff had helped me though many a quandry. I was also becomeing friends with the shop owner.

The wonderful though came when I was checking out another shop, in hopes this would become my new shop as soon as the other closed. And here we were 3 people who don't know each other and a piece of a star quilt on a table with 3 fabrics. Within about 10 minutes we were all discussing which cholour choice would be best. After having about a 30 minutes conversation we remembered to introduce ourselves. I have had this happen to me every time I am in a quilt shop. It's like the joy of quilting is such a common bond that complete strangers will just start conversing over a quilt block. Now is this something you just get here or is it like that everywhere quilters gather?

That has been my experience as well. I think we all have a very common bond. I have noticed the same thing when crocheting, and someone else is a crocheter watching me. We get into discussions before we even introduce ourselves. Needleworkers seem to be great people. Maybe it is because we take time out to do something that we enjoy, and is calming. :D

I know just what you mean! I have found myself in a conversation over color or fabric choices even in JoAnn's or anywhere there's fabric. And some of the most fun ones have been when I was helping with the quilting demo at the county fair! So many non-quilters come to watch & ask questions....maybe there is something about quilts that makes people want to share :D

I know exactly what you mean! The first time I visited the quilt shop in Summersville, the owner and I started talking about fabric and her store and how long she'd been open and patterns and I'd been there about an hour before we remembered to introduce ourselves. LOL. I love days like those!
