Default Ruler Work Suggestions Please

I am fairly new at ruler work and need help deciding on a design for this quilt. I purposely made this quilt with a lot of space to allow room for practice. I have several rulers to use and can also borrow from a friend. I welcome all suggestions!

It depends on whether there are specific areas you want to pop.

Amy Johnson has a bunch of interesting ruler work designs on her youtube channel--including an awesome sampler that may give you some more inspiration.

Lovely top! I have Angela Walters Shape by Shape book and I look through it for inspiration. Her site is quiltingismytherapy.com You could also go to greenfairyquiltsblog.com and look at some of her work. Next decision is what colour thread? I am leaning towards red/white/blue variegated?

I love Green Fairy Quilts -- Judy Madson....she does great combos of ruler work and fillers.

To me these look like fire works so I would consider doing ruler work from the middle of each outward.

Personally I would add some curves/fillers to lighten some of the straight piecing/quilting though!

Thanks for the suggestions! I'll look at the three people named and see if I can find some inspiration. Wish me luck!

Angela Walters Shape by Shape books (1 & 2) are like reference books of designs for different shapes. Judi Madsen of Green Fairy Quilts does some awesome work. ditto Amanda Murphy and Dawn Cavanaugh. Check out the APQS website as Dawn Cavanaugh posts ideas on their website regularly--think Murphy also reps for a LA company but not sure which one. Dusty Farrell and Jamie Wallen also do soe amazing work--Wallen has several YouTube videos.

nice quilt! I typically like to do more dense quilting in the white spaces and then allow the colors to pop--literally!

I am working on a Chevron quilt on my DSM. I would just follow the outside of the design within the blocks and on the inside of the design. Very attractive quilt!

I can't help you with ruler work, but I had to tell you, it's a beautiful quilt. Nice job.

Thanks much! I went on a shop hop and collected the fabric at each shop. Once I got home I just made up the pattern which is a first for me! I normally have a very type A plan before I start a quilt!
