Just wondering.....
Are any names ever deleted from the quilting board? I was absent for a couple of years because of health issues, but came back to find I was still active...which I appreciated! However, I (like many others that frequent the board) am no spring chicken, and someday I won't be back to claim my name. How long will my name stay active on the board?...or is this even a thing I should be curious about? Just wondering.....

it's not unreasonable to be curious about it.
although they are not marked as such, accounts do go inactive after a while if there's been no activity.
but they are still there. if the member comes back and the password won't work, i can help with a reset or new one.
we do have a very few accounts for members who are now deceased.
as far as the member database is concerned the memberships are still valid.
their posts still have value because they very often shared useful information, interesting photos, etc.
i have thought about creating a new membership category, but the title "deceased" seems morbid to me.
i am very open to suggestions.

I agree that the threads may still be helpful to someone. The only problem I can see is if someone wants to PM someone who is deceased. Maybe a little symbol could be added to a deceased members name?

I personally like the idea of a symbol to identify a member who is not deceased. I for one was glad that after a long absences I was able to become active again without having to set things up again. That made it so easy to jump right back in and feel like I was right at home.

I, for one, would prefer not to have a deceased notation or category. Could this be one place where people just fad away? If someone has a question about a previous post that is not answered then it can be just not answered. No different than in the case of a member who is no longer active, for many different reasons. You are never really guaranteed a response, anyway. It is different in the case of people who actively involved in exchange groups and are often more closely in touch with each other. I think in those type of groups people often keep others informed about problems, illnesses , etc. without involving the whole board. Just my humble opinion.

I suppose I'll have to agree that it might be best to just let people fade away. I sort of like the idea that some of my work might be enjoyed by others for years to come. Personally, I enjoy the archives and often spend an enjoyable hour or two there. Well...I was just wondering....so now I know.

I like Tartan's idea of a symbol of some sort. Being deceased isn't morbid to me- it's just a fact of life, but I agree that a category isn't the best idea either.
Glad old posts are still around because of all the wonderful information.
