Needle won’t move but belt is ok
Hi. I have an old Merritt machine. No serial number on it. It’s been stored away for some time.
the needle won’t move. I’ve taken the top off and nothing moves inside. The belt moves fine.
Any ideas?

Welcome. It appears there were several models of the Merritt machine. The one that comes up more often is 2404. The serial number is on the base lip of the machine. A manual can be found at https://www.singer.com/support
Have you tried turning the hand wheel by hand? Sometimes the oil will dry up and act like glue. It is also possible that it is set for bobbin winding. It is also possible that someone put the hand wheel and stop motion clutch wrong. It is also possible that a gear is broken. The list goes on.....
The instructions on how to post a picture can be found at https://www.quiltingboard.com/attach...020-01-17-.pdf
Good luck.

Welcome to the QB! From SE Michigan. First of all I would start with oiling all the oil points. They are usually small open, "dot" looking areas on the top of the machine. Look at the underside and oil all the gears and moving parts.Use a good sewing machine oil and nothing else. That may loosen up things to start with . If that doesn't work then it will be necessary to look at other reasons. Start with the simplest first.
