Default APQS Longarm Certification

Has anyone taken the APQS Longarm Certification class and can offer a review? It is a 14 week online class for $500 and says you don't have to have a APQS longarm. It appears to cover quilting as a business (which I don't really need right now) as well as actual longarm quilting so would like to know the balance between these two aspects of the class.

TIA

what type of long arm do you have? I took the very first Gammill Quilting with Confidence class (only 2nd day) and while it was good I frankly find their FB and website features about as helpful.

You might try asking on the APQS forum or FB page as well - I would expect a larger audience to answer that specific question there.

I have a King Quilter II.

@quiltingshorttimer thank you, I'll check those out.

you could also just call APQS and see if they can give you an outline of the topics covered. They probably have an idea of how much time they spend on the business aspects and how much time on the actual quilting part. You could also watch some of the videos they have done on utube. I wanted to take the classes they offered when I first got my machine. I did the intro class when I first got my machine and then took a couple of classes from the APQS rep where I live. I learned something for each time. It was helpful. I wish they had had an online class when I first got my machine. I never could travel when it was offered.

What is the certification for? There are a LOT of free videos on YouTube. Just sayin'.

@Peckish fair question. The certification basically indicates you've attained a certain level of skill in the various aspects of long arm quilting. I like the idea that they actually assess your work and offer feedback, although that adds considerably to the cost of the course. I understand there are lots of free YouTube videos, but part of me like a more structure program than just randomly looking stuff up on YouTube....

I cant speak to this particular course or the value of it. When I bought my HQ Fusion back in 2014, I was lucky to find a traveling Longarm Training class by Longarm University. She travels all over the US doing classes and she is an amazing teacher. I took a 3 day class that included the business side of things, I left with tons of DVD’s to refresh my memory when/if needed and the confidence to try my hand at freehand quilting (didn’t have the robotics yet). I don’t remember the cost, but it was money well spent. There were 6 of us total and it was a lot of fun. I would reach out the APQS to see if they could send you a class outline for you to evaluate.
If you are looking for a resource here is Cindy’s website, not affiliated in any way, just a pleased customer.
