Do any of your groups sew for Project Linus? I can't find that I have a chapter in my county of Vernon MO. I'm looking for some projects for a ladies' group we are forming. I have heard of this but have never been involved or known anyone personally who is.

I don't make quilts for them. I make quilts to donate to the foster kids in my county. I can use whatever fabrics I want. They are always glad to get the quilt to give out aroune the first week or so of December.

I second the suggestion to *donate locally*. There are always shelters, nursing homes and hospitals who have plenty of patients/clients who need them. Bless your own community!

I have donated to PL and all of the quilts go to meet local needs: foster care, hospitals, children who have experienced trauma, lost homes to disasters and so on.

Go to the PL website and click on your state. Then find the closest chapter to you. Even if it is 200 miles away, call the contact person and ask about your immediate area. They can help. The person in my area lives 50 miles away but comes to my city once or twice a month and I meet her at mutually agreed on location and give her my quilts. She then distributes them to local hospitals, foster care, social service agencies and children's protective services. The last I knew she had requests for 500+ quilts in just three or four counties. Very few requirements, just good sturdy quilts, crocheted blankets, or simple fleece blankets. I try to include larger quilts for teens and particularly males. In my area this is where the need is greatest, disenfranchised adolescents.Plenty of folks want to make charming baby quilts but their older siblings needs warmth and comfort too.

If you ask they will give you a signed/dated form to use for verification of donations for tax purposes. Since they are a non-profit organization they are required to provide this if you request it. I found PL very easy to work with them.

WMUTeach, thanks for that information and suggestion about going on line to PL in search of a local connection. I have big tote boxes full of fleece blankets with crochet edges just waiting to be given to kids and teens.
