Today I bought a jelly roll and I have to admit, I guess I don't have an appreciation for tie dyed looking batiks, because they are so ugly!! I am returning them tomorrow. I thought I was buying solid colors until I opened it and unrolled it a bit.

Good thing they know me there and I can return it.

Ahhhh I'm so sorry you were dissappointed! Glad that you can return it though. Will you have to make a special trip?

I'm glad you can return what you don't like. I love the marbled colors, but I don't like when they mix the colors all in a jumble (as in all the ones Joann's sells). My local quilt shop wont take anything back (not even if they talked me into buying it!). Did look and see if you liked the size/strips?

That's one thing about my local quilt store, they have small quilts on the walls showing exactly what fabrics are in the jelly roll, and what they look like together. Good thing to or I'd make the same mistakes, the rolls look the same! Sorry you were disappointed.

No problem with making an extra trip. I got it from Hancock and it's only 2 miles from home.

The quilt shop I regularily go to was out of them. I'll look at another quilt shop tomorrow.

Ohhh cool beans!! How fortunate for you to live so close!!! For me to return anything, anywhere is a minimum of 20 miles one way. Unless of course it came from Dollar General then its only a couple of blocks. But, unfortunately, can't buy fabric there!!

AND you get to go on a quilting shop hunt too!! I'm thinking maybe this dissappointment was a treasure map in disguise huh? :D

Jelly Rolls are great but no one likes "ugly" fabric...
But to me, what I think is ugly someone else may love...
Maybe we should have an ugly fabric swap in the future...
strips or FQ or Fat 8th or 5 inch charms would be fun...

I think that's one of the reasons why I haven't bought jelly rolls yet. I have seen then in quilt stores with the already made quilts hanging next to them, so that makes it better.
You are lucky you can return them.
What would be nice would be if they would hand maybe a fat 8th of the fabric next to the jellys so you, meaning everyone, could see the fabric

Yep, they took back the jelly roll, no problem, but then I turned around and bought a quilt book.
