I finally got the money to buy some illustration board from the art supply store so now I can make templates for the Tsunami quilt. Hopefully that'll work out well. I'd start on it right now, but I was gone for a couple of days and my brother made a mess of my bed/eating/entertainment/sewing room while I was away. I let him use my room to play PS2 and watch movies since he doesn't have a TV in his room with the promise that he won't mess my room up (a promise he usually ends up breaking). And it was already a mess before I left anyways. So I need to tidy up before anything can get started on.

To be honest, this quilt kind of scares me. I think I can do it, but I also have a lack of faith as well. I've never made a quilt this big (nearly a King). There are like 700 pieces to this thing. More pieces = more chances to **** up = more brain cells lost. And it has to be done before September 2, a deadline that will be more difficult to achieve as the number of screw-ups increase.

Thus, I need a little support because I feel like what I'm going to attempt to do is absolutely crazy and will result in the death of whatever sanity I have left.

You can do it V. Just put the pedal to the metal! Don't think in terms of deadlines (and stress out). Just set reasonable goals for yourself and plug along. You can do it. Be sure you do a sample block or two before you cut all your fabric up. I think I remember you've had some problems with your templates being the wrong size, so just be careful. Maybe divide the number of pieces/blocks by the number of weeks and you'll see you only need to get a couple of blocks done per week instead of thinking about 700 pieces all at once. Be your own best friend and cheering section. You're talented and capable.

I was having problems with the templates for the Ninja Star quilt (which I have completely given up on for now so I could keep some sanity left...wish I could buy some sanity at Wal-Mart, but can't and even if I could I doubt I could afford it with the rising cost of fuel prices). And if I had problems with that one, I'm almost 100% positive that I'm going to have problems with this one since half the blocks have 16 pieces to them.

don't worry so much.

i have problems with every quilt i make. i just slow down, figure out where i went wrong, take notes if necessary, then get back on track. sometimes it takes me in a whole new direction that works out better than my original plan.

don't think about the finished size while you're working. cut enough strips and patches for just a few blocks at a time, make those blocks, then repeat the process until you have enough. that way, if you make a mistake, it won't affect the whole quilt and you can recover more easily.

once the quilt is done, the problems don't show. AND i've gained experience for the next one. :wink:

Don't look at the big picture . . . look at one block at a time. And if that's too intimidating, look at the little bits of block you construct first . . .

You know you're going to do a great job!!! And deadlines are made to be missed!

Okay. If you guys think I can do it, I'll try my best not to give up on it. Just keeep motivating me so I don't loose all my sanity and go Jason Voorhees on somebody. lol.

Every quilt I've made has given me some problem, but I think figuring out a solution actually creates more brain cells rather than losing them. I can get stuck when I start anticipating trouble, but find if I just plunge in and do it things do work out. Just go for it, girl!

And I must be out of the loop, what is going "Jason Voorhees?"

Hey V, I know you can make this one. Heck, you designed it and have a great eye..so just get busy! You'll never get it done if you don't start...and no whining either :lol: :lol: We want to see progress and pics along the way so we can ooohhhh and aaahhhhh! I for 1 can't wait to see this one. Its going to be great. Don't let those blocks scare you, you just get there by sewing 1 piece of fabric to another...thats all. :D

V, I know with all your creativity, you'll do great! you just have to start sewing, then keep going, and then wow, where have all the hours gone... and you have a block/row/top!

Well, usually for me the process of getting to a solution kills of many, many brain cells and much of my sanity. I remember the last quilt I did and everything went smoothly until I got to sandwiching togeter. Nothing worked no matter what I did and eventually I lost it and threw it in the trash, screaming on the way there. I did figure out a solution, but not before going completely crazy. I got my templates cut out and I'm hoping things will go smoothly.

Must not be a slasher film fan. Jason Voorhees is the serial killer from the "Friday the 13th" movies (big guy, wears a hockey mask, usually has a machete). "Going Jason Voorhees" is a term I coined while I was in "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" (long story). Basically, my way of saying I'm about ready to kill someone (not literally though) when I'm frustrated.
