I don't throw away any scapes. I have given them to some ladies that make throws for the nursing homes. Glenda C.

I keep some for applique and donate the rest to a local nursing home. They have an active group of quilters.

I finally went thru all my stash and "trimmed" everything up. I save everything from 2' and up. I do have a box of the really tiny scraps, the corners from triangles, thread, batting pieces, selvage ends. I take that to the quilt store and they use it for stuffing for animal beds. The pieces that are too big for that box, but way to small for me, I put in a basket and when its full, I put it on her for giveaway.

I have been starting to use them for applique pieces...I give them to friends for their quilts and also stacking them up for future quilts. I may start using them for my labels.

could you elaborate?

you sew strips 13" wide. Crosswise strips, just keep sewing long long long. Cut as many 12.5 sq as you can. When what is left is not 12.5, you cut a 10.5 x 4.5. 10.5 is crosswise & 4.5 is the long long long direction? and one final 2.5 cut?

Thanks for taking the time to explain your system.

I have been cutting mine into strips and making into log cabin quilts. I find it's a lot easier for me just to think in terms of 1.5" strips, rather than various size blocks, and I love the variety you can get with log cabins.

Now, depending on how long my strip set is, I cut
12.5" squares as many as I can get from that strip set,

4.5" strip sets and trim them down to 10.5" wide, saving the trims to make more strip sets later,.as many as I can get from.

Then 2.5" strip sets, the width of the strip set.

I'll take some pictures to show what I'm talking about.

I know a person who make a pillow and keeps it near her sewing machine. She fills it with the small scraps and when full she sew up the end and donates to the animal shelter.
