I always wondered what to do with the jelly roll and now Iknow. I love your pattern. Very simple and quick. Since I have never done one and I would like to make a queen size do you recommed 2 jelly rolls? 1 1/2? Just not sure. I wish I could come up with such great ideas. Thanks for sharing.

How big is your queen size quilt? I will take some time to do some math and see if I can help you understand the formula ... but, it is important to know how big you want the final quilt to be? <wave>

Mine is 93 x 93. It is for a friend and her bed isn't as high as mine so I think maybe I could down size a bit, maybe 87 x 93

I don't think you are going to get to a queen sized quilt from here <g> ...
The original pattern is 40 strips with an average of 40 inches per strip (some strips may go as high as 45, but average is 40 inches) ...
one jelly roll = 1600 inches ... stitched end to end, folded in half, creates a piece that measures 800x 4.5" ... folded in half, (and cut) creates a piece 400" x 8.5"
    repeat to create a piece 200" x 16.5"
and, again to create a piece 100" x 32.5" ...and, once again to create a piece measuring 50" x 64.5"
if you add a 4.5" border all around, you end up with lap robe that ends up measuring approximately 58.5" x 73" very respectable size.

So, then I added 1/2 jelly roll - - the figures look like:
    2400" ... fold in half = 1200" x 4.5
    600" x 8.5"
    300" x 16.5"
    150" x 32.5"
75" x 64.5" once again, you have created a lap robe, but the stripes are going vertically, rather than horizontally ... so, then <g>

I did the math for two jelly rolls:
    3200 ... folded in half creates a piece that measure 1600" x 4.5
    800" x 8.5"
    400" x 16.5"
    200" x 32.5"
    100" x 64.5"
50" X 128.5" once again, the stripes would be more naturally vertical ....
NOW! Not all is lost ... I can go back and do the math for a wider strip ... <wave>

    So! I went to a 3.5" strip ... 40" long ... 40 strips per roll:
    1600" -- first step = 800" x 6.5"
    second step = 400" x 12.5"
    third step = 200" x 24.5"
    fourth fold = 100" x 48. 5"
    fifth fold/step = 50 x 96.5"

    60 strips, 3.5" wide, at 40 " long (1.5 jelly rolls) = 2400"
    first fold = 1200" x 6.5"
    second fold = 600" x 12.5"
    third fold = 300" x 24.5"
    fourth fold = 150" x 48.5"
    fifth fold = 75" x 96.5"

and, finally <g> 2 jelly rolls of 3.5" pieces, average forty inches long, 80 strips = 3200"
    first fold = 1600" x 6.5"
    second fold = 800" x 12.5"
    third fold = 400" x 24.5"
    fourth fold = 200" x 48.5"
    fifth fold = 100" x 96.5"

TA DAH! I think I figured it out for you. I got some measurements that are close to what you want ... but, do you want me to do some more? I have heard they do a 4.5" jelly roll  would you like me to do that math on that, too? <wave>

Thanks for doing the math! You are becoming a real expert on my pattern!

I am SOOOO happy to know that you like numbers! I can spell just about anything and could probably still conjugate a verb if I had to - but math - EGADS - I screw up using a calculator! It's nice to have a numbers genius as close as your local keyboard!

I think I may try this over the weekend and see what I can come up with.
