Here's a quilt I recently made for a client using her late father's neckties. I've made several necktie quilts, but this is the first with this design.

    Thank you Mabel!

I have been collecting silk ties from garage sales and thrift stores for months now. That is an awesome pattern and it looks great!

Wow! Where did you get the lighter colors? Are they from the linings? This is very pretty! How did you handle the slippery fabrics, what seam allowance did you use?

Beautiful. I've never seen one done quite like that and it really give it a great design along with the memories.

Mable, you have done such a very good job blending all the different shades of the ties. When I first looked at it I thought all his ties were almost alike. Then I look at the closeup of the 2nd photo and see they are 'not' all similar. I see the beautiful blend of shades is your work of art. I know I will never get to that level of skill but I will be able to enjoy the beauty through others' creations. This is stunning. Very very beautiful.

The light colors are about 1/2 light colored ties and 1/2 khaki broadcloth.

I cut 5 inch squares of lightweight fusible interfacing, put a piece of light & dark fabric right sides together & sewed them directly to the sticky side of the interfacing from corner to corner. The seam allowance is anywhere from 1/4 to 1/2, it doesn't matter. Then press the fabrics to the interfacing & trim with a 4 1/2 inch square ruler.
