This is such a great idea, especially for a newbie like me!
Just the first square would be really great to make for a lap blanket for shut-ins, etc....

This is PERFECT for my son. He's been complaining that I make quilts for everyone except him. I just couldn't think of something that didn't look "girly," if you know what I mean. And guess what? Red and black are his favorite colors!

For a twin-sized quilt, would you happen to know how much of 8 different fabrics I'd need, given the 4-inch squares in your quilt?
