Default Fabric Boxes with French Seams Tutorial

My tutorial shows you how to make French Seams when constructing a Fabric Box as first shown to us on http://seaside-stitches.blogspot.com...-tutorial.html.

First you make your quilted square what ever size you want. My example is a 15" square. Determine which side you want to be the inside of the box and which will be the outside. Fold your square in half, the inside facing each other. Example corner is marked at 3" (this turned out to be quite a tall box).

Next, stitch your marked line. Now draw a line on your fabric 1/4" from the stitched line. I found this worked best since you are working with bulk here. Cut your fabric in between your drawn line and your stitched line... it will leave about 1/8" past your stitched line.

Sew your other corner and then, fold your square and sew the remaining two corners. Whew! Bear with me, it works.

Now, turn your square wrong side out!

OK, run your finger along what is your inside fabric seam to kinda of backward finger press that seam open. Pin your seams and sew 1/4" seams.

Since your seam allowance is cut at 1/8", you essentially are encasing it within the 1/4" seam you are now sewing. Be sure to back stitch a few stitches at the beginning and ending of this seam.

Turn box right side out and fold down your corners. Rather than stitching through all of the layers (my arthritis complains when I do this) I simply tack down the corners under the tip of the corner and then sew on my deco on the outside.

Haven't made any of these yet, but think I'll use your technique when I do, thanks!
