Just a quick question before I do this wrong, maybe! Do you cut the batting the same as the circle, or cut the batting the size including the seam allowance?

I place the 2 fabric layers together and draw all my circles and leaf shapes but leave enough space between the shapes for adding the seam allowance. I sew around the petal shapes without batting first.

I then place batting under the circles and sew around the circles on the marked line. The batting is included in the stitching line and is trimmed to the same 1/4 inch seam allowance as the fabric above it. The stitching keeps the batting in place when you turn your circles.

Thanks, I'm making my templates today.....I try to make something each year for the females in my family for Christmas, this will be perfect. Are there any pitfalls you can think of?

If your fabrics are directional, make sure you cut the slit for turning the circles in the correct side position. The 4 circles all need the slit to be in the center where you will be doing the fold over.
When you mark to match up the pairs to sew together, mark only on the L shape sides that go to the center. Since the other sides of the circle go to the outside and don't have a fold over, you don't want pencil marks out there.

I made an entire reversible quilt this way..... it is an awesome way to make circles!!!!
