Janis, your idea for hiding the fastening area with a flower at the candle base is brilliant! And yes, it would work, but I wondered what you will use for the fastening if you don't want anything metal? Maybe those little velcro circles?

Your name is very funny and cracked me up! To keep it a circle, draw a pencil line to follow by tracing around your CD/CL. When you stitch, stay right in the middle of the line and stitch very very slowly...I have trouble with that too so I have to be obsessive about it.

I would hand sew the 'candle to the center of the flower, and then probably hand sew the flower to the top of the cake. Using Velcro to attach the flower to the top sounds great and would work for an older child that wouldn't loose the candle part. My GDs are 5, and twins 3, and things that go together still don't stay together in the same place, so the candles would need to be attached.
