Great tutorial. I've always wanted to do that. The pictures make it easy to follow, but some of the terms are not quite right. You start with an "octagon" in the center. It has eight sides, hence the "octo", a prefix meaning eight. A hexagon has six sides.
Later, you say to add HST's. Those are half square triangles, and are really a square made up of two triangles. I always found that term hard to understand. So what you are adding are just triangles in several different places.

I don't want to make you feel bad, but it's nice to know the correct terms. Please look them up so you know for sure.

Again, thanks for the beautiful work. Keep it up.

yep...agree with your correction on center...it is an octagon, not a hexagon!!!!

as for the "definition" of HST....i took a square, cut it in half on the diagonal and created a Triangle...hence...HST. i guess we will just have to agree to disagree on this one.....just cause it is not sewn to another HST, doesn't make it not one!!!!

Awesome I love the tute, thanks for all the work you put into it and for sharing it with us. I love the owls center and the colors you chose to use around it.

Me too. I am actually thinking I may try to go out with another set of interlocking squares to make it larger. add borders and have an amazing wall hanging....

thanks everyone for the positive responses. sorry about the mistake of listing hexagon instead of octagon...more used to working with hexagons...guess i got them on the brain...hehehe.
