The name is 10 minute table runner, but it took me 35 min. cutting, sewing, pressing, and putting in the batting. Some of you more seasoned quilters/sewer can probably do it in 10 minutes.

1 pc. fabric wof X 18 inches
1 pc. fabric wof x 12 inches
batting 18x45

see the photos below.

sew the length of the fabric

sew length of fabric on the other side

to continue

now you have made a tube

press so that there are equal borders created by the backing on each side

Now is the time to put in your batting. put back side together and sew

you are nearly done.

Next time I am going to cut the center just 9 inches so that I have more border showing. You can create yours any size you want. I am making 8 for my neighbors for Christmas and will do just simple quilting. They will all be in Christmas fabrics.

after sewing the ends, a point is formed. turn and press.

This is the sample so I have not quilted it yet. You can do all kinds of things with this, like adding piping, rick-rack in the side seams, patch work in the middle, etc.

Sadiemae 11-19-2010 12:53 PM

Great tute! My LQS made them, but they didn't put batting inside.

ruth c 11-19-2010 01:06 PM

I've made several of these The pattern doesn't all for batting.

Nana2Sew 11-19-2010 01:20 PM

Very pretty............thanks for sharing
The pattern I have is:
Center fabric 10"
Border fabric 20"
no batting.

quiltinghere 11-19-2010 04:47 PM

Some orphan blocks would look great on the top piece...

lots2do 11-19-2010 04:51 PM

Thank you - that made sense to me!

Our quilting group used warm and natural batting and it added just the right amt. of low loft and they are lovely with the batting, but just as you did - batting is not a requirement by any means.

I do like your sizes better as I think the wider border is more attractive. Will post my Christmas runners when they are finished and I am going to use your sizes and warm and natural batting as I like the way they look with that type of batting. thanks.

Thanks for the tute. You're right - great Christmas presents. Will definitely be making some of these.

Thank you for posting, very nice!

I made several of these table runners, and plan to make more for Christmas gifts. The pattern I used (a kit)didn't ask for the batting and it works just as well. Then you really can do it in 10 minutes. I love these quickie ideas for gifts.

"put back side together and sew" I got lost at this point. Perhaps I'll just have to follow the first steps then I will see what happens. I can't figure out how two pieces of a rectangle form points on the end. What am I missing?

plainpat 11-21-2010 02:31 PM

Same here....

love this pattern. I used flannel instead of batting for a lower loft. Keeps the point from getting so "fat". Can't figure out how to post a picture in this note or I would.

karenchi 11-23-2010 06:29 AM

My quilt shop gave me 5 listed instructions, and I could not figure it out :-(
but found the online one and really helped. Oh, if you goggle 10 minute table runner a bunch will be listed.....Go though them and find the one you need....That's what I did....

AngieS 11-23-2010 08:52 AM

Cute!!

The Babe 11-23-2010 12:56 PM

Karen, thank you for your picture. I now find it very clear how the points are formed. I could not tell it from other pictures I have seen. I an a VERY visual person. Printed instructions seem to confuse me for some reason. LOL

nellie 11-26-2010 02:43 AM

thank you for pattern

Psychomomquilter 12-01-2010 04:32 AM

what a way to go!! thanks for the tip!

MarciaN 12-03-2010 07:20 AM

Hi everyone, I am brand new to the forum. I really like this tablerunner tut, even I, as challenged as I am, can make it! Wondering tho, if you wanted to add batting, did you just slip that in the tube after sewing together? Thanks again for the tutorial. I made some placemats to match by cutting the tube in half.

Thanks for the instructions. This is my first one but I plan to make a few more for gifts

quilt queen 12-06-2010 06:19 AM

I don,t mean to be a dummy, but how do you get the batting into the tube? I know I must be missing a very important and very evident step but...I have all the material cut and am just waiting for the light to go on so that I can get the batting in... Thanks

JanTx 12-06-2010 06:37 AM

I just made this with batting. When you're putting it together - before you sew - lay the backing right side up on a table. Put the top right side down on the backing - lining up the ends and one side. Cut the batting the size of the top. Place the batting on the top (I spray basted mine.) Pin the long side together. Then pin the other long side AFTER you have lined it up. Sew the two long sides to make a tube, then turn inside out. I had to trim the batting on the short sides before I folded them down and sewed them.

Make sense?

quilt queen 12-06-2010 09:38 AM

Thank you very much....sometimes the old brain just shuts down in protest...got it now..have a wonderful Christmas season.

Here's my first table runner and I know it won't be the last. Thanks so much for the tute!

For the first time I felt like I was using a "Stash". I picked up several $1 Fat Quarters at the Houston Quilt Show - that's what I pieced the center with. The backing/border is material from Wal-mart that I'd picked up just because I thought I could use it sometime.

I just knew it was for a gift - undetermined person. Turns out the undetermined owner is ... me! I'm having piano students come over for a Piano Party tomorrow and Wednesday. We'll practice performing, eat some cookies, then go to a local nursing home and play for the residents as they wait for dinner. That runner looks great on MY table! (It's on the piano bench for the picture - not gonna sit on my lovely creation!)

plainpat 12-07-2010 02:10 AM

Very nice! & thank you for sharing your music at the nursing home.

MarciaN 12-07-2010 05:35 AM

I would say exactly what Pat said, very pretty tablerunner and thank you for sharing your music at the care center. Have any of you seen this You Tube video? Here is a link, enjoy.
