Thank you so much. As a new quilter I'm struggling with 1/4 inch seams. This looks like a great tip!

I am so honored that this tip has helped or impressed so many of you!

There are times I've held the sticky pad down with a long piece of tape but personally find the rubberband more comfortable and quicker.

For those who've asked why just the rubber band by itself wouldn't work as well....... Personally I find that the thickness of the full sticky pad helps you to keep from focusing so much on the edge of the band/tape/moleskin guide, but allows you to just keep the fabric edge against the glued side of the pad where the fabric isn't going to slide over or under the guide and mess with the seam allowance.

Believe me, I've tried them all and, for me, I finally settled on this thick sticky pad idea. I buy them at Sam's Club where they come like 12 pads to a little box. There are always a stack of them in my "tools" drawer.

(I'm actually kind of wondering if John Flynn didn't hear of the idea from someone who was in a class with me in the early 1990s as he never mentioned it in classes/workshops I took with him prior to 2000. Not that it matters at all. :-) )
