Adding hanging sleeve to quilt

7 Attachment(s)
here is the tutorial on how to attach the sleeve to the quilt. I did this to give a bit of help for those of us who are new to hanging sleeves or looking for a new way to do this step.

1.Trim the top of the quilt

2. I used the purple disappearing ink pen for marking centers

3.

4. lay the sleeve centered with the top edge in line with the edge of the quilt.

5. use a long stitch and baste the sleeve to the top using a 1/8" seam. Just enough to hold it in place while sewing the binding on.

6. Sew the binding on in whatever manner you like. I sew it to the front using a 1/4" seam and just be careful that you don't fold the loose part of the sleeve into the binding seam because it is under the quilt. I like to leave the extra batting and backing on untill I finish sewing the binding on, it gives the feed dogs something to grab. Trim the extra after the binding is sewn on.

7. After finishing the binding flip it to the back and stitch it down using the machine or by hand. I like to hand sew my binding. After the binding is done hand stitch the bottom edge of the sleeve down being sure to NOT sew through all the layers. Just catch the baking and a bit of batting. Use the whip stitch or railroad stitch for the binding and hem of the sleeve.

Your quilt is now ready for a small dowel and one pin to hang it. If there are any questions I will try to answer them.

Thanks for looking.

Why do you need a small pin to hang the quilt? I must have missed something.

You put a small dowel through the sleeve. Put one pin in the wall to act as a hook where you want to display the wall hanging. Put the dowel on the pin and you are done.

Hope this makes it more clear.

Awesome tutorial. I don't think you could have made it anymore clear. Thank you for sharing.
