Here is a brief tute on how I do my innies on those pesky scrolls (or commas).

I hope having pictures helps those of you who are looking for some help with this task. They look so neat, but are so tricky. With this method, the glue makes it so mych easier.

I have indicated where I put glue stick. Isn't very much that needs to be glued down, but it sure helps as there isn't hardly any seam allowance there to baste under.

This shows the tiny areas that actually are glued down. I clip right up to the freezer paper piece in a few areas, especially if it is a tight curve, but don't necesarily glue if there is enough fabric to baste.

This shows the scrolls all basted and ready to applique. I do put the stitches very close together in the inner area, but not too close as that might cause the fabric to completely disentegrate

Thank you.

Pics make it easier to understand how you are managing these scrolls.

when and how do you take the paper out?

After I finish appliuqueing the scroll completely around all edges, I cut out the background fabric leaving a 1/4" seam allowance. If the area is narrow, I just cut down the center. I remove the basting stitches & pull the freezer paper out. Because I use a CHEAP glue stick, it doesn't stick very permanently, so it loosens easily.

Thanks Kathy! I really need to get out that glue stick when I'm doing these!

alikat - I nearly moved to Waco back last October/November. DH had 2 job offers in 2 days, the one in Waco & the one here. He took the one here because I didn't want to move, but I think we would have been better to have moved there. We were going to build a house in Robinson, less than 10 minutes from his office. 20-20 hindsight. Did find a cute little quilt shop there somewhere on the west side. Waco really reminded me of Wichita, Kansas where I grew up, especially the downtown area.
