Thanks for posting this. I've been working it out in my head since you showed us the quilt. Needless to say, your instructions are much better than the ones in my head! I'm thinking of doing this with squares from the 2.5 inch swap here on the board.

Oh gosh, that is a marvelous quilt and tutorial!
My husband and I have Greek Key wedding bands; this would be a marvelous quilt for us. And I love the scrappy aspect to it.
Thanks so much.

Oh, how perfect for both of you!! It's a great pattern and scraps show so well and it seems everything my brother brought back from Greece had the Greek Key symbols on it! Thank you, Sunnye!!

JFYI, I thought all of you might be interested in knowing that the inner border fits perfectly on top of the bed, much to my amazement!! lol.

Yes, you sure do! That sounds very convenient! You may even put it in PDF format and share with others online if you'd like! Correct my errors while you're at it as they don't really give you 20 min. to correct after posting ~~ it's more like 20 seconds! lol.:eek:

Help!

What am I doing wrong? It seems like some of the white strips are too short and shouldn't the block finish @9"? (6 x 1 1/2 + SA = 9 1/2) I must be missing something. I like the block and have plenty of scraps, but it just isn't working. Thanks.

Your pieced block = 9" but you must subtract 1/2" when joining blocks, so your final block size will be 8.5". All of my blocks come out at 8.5" exactly. I have a 1/4" foot on my machine. You may have cut the strips wrong. Make sure they are the 3.5, 5, 6, and 7.5 inch lengths. This is what you should have at each step of the way:

* the 4P fin. @ 3x3
*add the white strip; next it fin. @ 4.5
*add the white strip; next it fin. @ 4.25 x 4.50
*add 3 pc. scrappy; next it fin. @ 4.50 x 5.75
*next it finishes at 6x6
*add the white strip; next it fin. @ 5.75 x 7.25
*add white strip; fin. @ 7.25 x 7.25
*add scrappy strip; fin. @ 8.50
*add last scrappy strip; fin. @ 8.5 x 8.5 (when blocks are sewn together)

If your strips seem too short, you are not taking a full 1/4" off. So sorry you are having trouble. Check to see if your block finishes at the guideline above throughout the piecing.

Hope this works for you, Nance!! Let me know if you need any add'l help! You will love it when all the blocks come out right and are joined together! Please don't give up.

p.s. 6x1.5 = 9 (not 9.5 and you've already allowed for the SA so you can't add it in again)

:)

I too have lots of triangles stored up and here's a pic of a block I want to do sometime. It's called the Japanese x and + block but looks better in fun brights than in Batiks like this one. You'll use up 8 triangles/block, 2.5" size for a 10" block. Barabara Brackman's book on quilt blocks calls it a 'Spool' block.

I'm also working on Next Door Neighbor, a block that uses lots of triangles. The going is slow, but it does use lots up!

I'll get the link for you: http://quilterscache.com/N/NextDoorNeighbor2Block.html

This pattern uses 16 triangles. There's another one there too so you might check that one out. Hope this helps you decide. Thank you, fronzstore!

Here's a pic of the x and + block:
