Caroline's Fabric Bowls
1 Attachment(s)
Hi Guys,
I have been asked by a couple of people how to make the small fabric bowls that I posted recently. I thought that they would be too difficult to just explain so I have done a tutorial for you. Here goes... Step 1 Cut 2 complementary fabric square 10.5" x 10.5" and one square of batting 10" x 10" (fusible wadding is best if you have it). Please note that poly batting is no good for this project as the loft is too high. STEP 2 Place fabrics on top of each other, right sides together and place wadding centrally on top, press or pin in place. Step 3 Sew all round with a quarter inch seam, leaving a gap for turning. When finished, turn right side in. Step 4 Press and then sew all the way around again, only this time as close to the edge as you can. Step 5 Number your corners as shown in the picture. Tis does not need to be done physically as long as you can remember where they are. Step 6 Now this is the tricky bit. Corner 1 - measure 2.5 inches down the left side and mark with a half inch line. Corner 2 - measure in from the corner along the top 2.5 inches and mark a half inch line. Corner 3 - measure in from bottom 2.5 inches and mark with a half inch line. Corner 4 - measure upwards from the corner and mark with a half inch line. If you zoom in on the photo you should see some blue lines. Step 7 Another tricky bit. Fold square corner 1 to corner 2 with inside fabric touching. Stitch a had inch along each 2.5 inch mark... See photos. |

Okay Guys,
SECOND PART of the tutorial.... I had to stop for dinner and there were too many pic to post in one thread. Step 8 You have to stitch all the marked lines together as follows....in step one you did corner 1 to corner 2' now do the following.... Corner 4 to Corner 2, Corner 3 to Corner 4 and finally Corner 3 to Corner 1 and you should end up with a tied hankie shape... See photo. Step 9 Now take one of the bottom loops and flatten it...... Stitch down each side. Do this for all 4 bottom loops. Step 10 Fold down the points and sew on an embellishment if you want or just pop in a small tacking stitch to ensure that the points stay down. I didn't have any Christmas buttons (can you believe that), so I made a tiny Suffolk Puff (yo yo to you guys) and popped on a Swarovski Crystal. I hope you can follow this tutorial, but if you have any problems... Just PM me. hugs Caroline |
The bottom picture is the picture for Step 8.

Can't View It!
Caroline-- According to the Admin., your pictures didn't load correctly, and we won't be able to see them until you fix it. How frustrating for those of us who really want to make some of these bowls! Please try to make your photos a bit smaller and re-post. I'm sure you'll have to do another thread to do so. We'll be looking forward to it!
Thanks so much! |

My first fabric bowl

Somewhere on here I just left a teeny tiny picture of my bowl creation, along with one of a small tissue box cover...here it is a little bigger ;)
|
By the way, I made mine larger....it was a finished 13" square, and I just measured out 1/3 of the size of the square for the markings (in the case of 13", it would be 4 1/3"). I think with the use of the cotton quilt batting you could make them any size... Thank you, Caroline, for a great little gift idea.
