I am in the process of making my second one for my daughters wedding present.

I was taught by a very elderly lady who lived in the appalachian mountains of Virginia. Interesting how patterns were created with a little different twist to them.

Morag... Will you tell us how you learned to do it?

I would be interested in knowing your method too Thanks Pat

wonderful tuturial ! did mine in 4 inch squares.. had over 90 pieces of fabric, including windows and only made it to 11 x 15.. UUGGH.. so glad you use bigger size initial squares.

love this pattern. had to go to library for the hand style vs. machine.

thanks so much ! love it.. turn out the lights and look through your windows.. beautiful when back lit!

I love your small one - it must have been a real challenge. It does look spectacular with the light shinning through it.

thanks for the clear instructions, i want to make one for myself.

Question: what is the reason for the initial stitching up of the sides? I have a book that describes 3 methods for these blocks but it is not very clear. It does not include that step. I started on a few before I read this tutorial when I was looking for clarity on joining the blocks. Wondering if I need to start over?! Eeek! I am totally stuck now and I can't help but laugh! Anxiously awaiting any input! Thanks Y'all!
