Thank you for taking the time to do this for us.

Tartan 11-02-2014 09:14 PM

hmmm, I think maybe I need a quilted steering wheel cover. I hate putting my hands on a cold steering wheel in the winter.

cannyquilter 11-03-2014 01:19 AM

I saw this when you first posted. Thanks for tute think I will give this a go.

Thank you for this tute Judy! I've been using a purchased one for many years, as my van sits in the sun most of the time, and I don't like a HOT steering wheel! It needs to be replaced, and this is just what I needed to get myself a new one.

These would make great Christmas gifts - we should start a list of steering wheel sizes for different vehicles. I would love to make one for a friend who will be moving next spring to Florida, 2014 Ford F150. Anyone know the size??

Thanks for the tutorial

Cut elastic 20" shorter than circumference of wheel. Zig zag ends securely together I meant to put this info in tute sorry :(

Cheryl, it is really better to measure intended wheel as you need that snugg fit also on a truck cover you may want to add 1/2 inch to the width to acomadate a bulkier wheel you that model has one. The finish width of cover is approx. 4"

20" shorter? - I would think just 2", is this right?

ItsJustMe 11-03-2014 09:47 AM

You are very kind to take the time to do this! Thank you very, very much!

Thank you for making a tutorial. I saw your earlier post an thought "what a great idea!" especially since the colors you chose would match my car perfectly. :)

Cheryl normally elastic is cut half the length. I find that for a 46" wheel 26" cut and joined is just right. 2" shorter would nit give you the stretch need to bring outsides toward the middle Hope this helps

Thanks for clarifying - just sounded like an awful lot to subtract. Makes more sense now.

Thanks Judy for this tutorial. My steering wheel gets cold even here in the middle of North Carolina. And I remember Patti Cook from PAQA (Phoenix Area Quilting Association). And I thunk she belonged to Busy Bees but not sure about that. I do remember a Volkswagen beetle car quilt she made - really cute. I suppose it's possible I know you, too. Been away from Phoenix since 2003.

Thanks for the cool tote -

i used sleeper foot fabric- the gripper kind-as the backing. it grips really well! dh is getting a new car this week and i think it would make a lovely present, don't you!? wish i knew what color he is getting. guess i'll have to use 'builders' beige' . thanks for the very timely tute!

Do you put the grippers on the inside so they touch the steering wheel or the outside for your hands? In my head both are options.

Thanks for the tute and also for other suggestions and photos. My steering wheel gets pretty dirty from my hands and I think one of these would help ..... plus of course the hot and cold factor of the steering wheel would be remedied!

judy363905 11-13-2014 01:57 PM

Another feature is that your just put. The coverin your washer with a load of clothes, I do not pot in drier though. It comes out like new...the do fade it some, by that time you are ready for a new one and your have all the right measurement to replace it. :). The photo of the multicolor cover had been washed before photo was taken.
