I am working on a quilt called BOM Basket of Flowers by Marian Shenk. Some of the flowers have fabric fringe. I have never had success with making fringe out of fabric and I know there are embroidery designs with fringe, but I don't have an embroidery machine. I thought why not make my own. The embroidery machine and only zigzag so wide and my machine can do that! So I thought I would put up a tutorial and this is my first time so---be nice to me!! LOL I know you will!

First draw a circle where you what the fringe to be

Set your machine to the widest zigzag and close together--satin stitch. The needle should hit the circle on the inside.

Sorry for the blur. But it should look something like this.

Continuing.

This one is better. I went around twice. Now sew the inside of the ZZ with a smaller ZZ stitch to hold it inplace. You will remove the bobbin stitching but it has to be secured. Go around twice, at least with your small ZZ stitch.

Sew on the center of the flower

Now the center of the flower is secure

Now carefully cut the bobbin thread with you seam ripper

Loosen the fringe with some blunt like tweezers

Flowers with fringe! I hope this will be a help. God bless Emmy

What a great idea. I love making wall hangings and making the flowers this way will add that extra dimension. Thank you for a great new tip...and your instructions are easy to follow. Photos give me the picture I need. You're wonderful
