Thanks I will be using this tutorial.Sandy

I'm a little confused as to why the 2 1/2" x 5" goose would not be 3 3/8 x 6 1/4, rather than 3 5/8 x 6 3/4 if you are adding 7/8 and 1 1/4 for any size....am I reading something incorrectly?
Sterjane....go back and read all the comments, she recants the example. I love this, I had never seen it before. I will be using this method. Thank You for sharing!!
What would be the sizes I would cut for a 2 1/2 x 4 1/2? This sounds like something that would really help me.
So if I wanted to make a 2 1/2" x 4 1/2" flying goose, the size for the small block would be 3 3/8" and the large block would be 5 3/4". Is that correct??? That's usually the size I have to make for my flying geese, for some reason.
I can't find the pictures of cutting a business card and making smaller geese at the same time, was I dreaming?
Oops! That was Bonnie K Hunters Bonus Triangles from a snowball block, I have too many things going at one time....
Thank You for sharing your 'flying geese' fast - easy way with 'No Waste'...... Bless You & Happy Quilting!!
Question for you...I need to make Flying Geese and the measurements are 3" squares and the rectangle is 51/2". I tried the 3 7/8 X 6 3/4, but they are way too big for my project...care to assist?
McQuilter your 3" and 5 1/2" squares have seam allowance in them......... you need to work with finished size.
so use the finished size square of 2 1/2" and add the 7/8" 5" and add 1 1/4" your geese should come out to the size you need. |
What would the measurements be if I was using 5"x5" blocks? I just can't wrap my head around it lol
super cool! thanks for putting in the example sizes. off to make some geese!
Just made these today.....thanks for the tutorial. It was sooo easy.
I don't know why this post keeps disappearing from the tutorial page. I put a lot of time into it and I am sure there are people who haven't seen it who might be interested. I just went through the entire Archive list and couldn't find it. Therefore, I'm going to try bumping it before I post it again!
Wow! I made over 700 one time. Quilt still not finished. Packed in storage.

Wow! I must have been hiding under a rock when this was first posted. I love making and using Flying Geese, but I make them the old fashioned way. I have Eleanor Burns ruler for making FG but really like the old way better. But THIS looks great. Can't wait to make some. Thanks. BTW, your tutes are awesome. You put so much thought and work into them.
thank you for sharing this tut...going to try it...:)

Great!! First time I have logged on to the Quilt Board. What a time saver. Thanks so much.
Awesome! I have always put off doing Flying Geese blocks because I didn't want to have all the waste. I will certainly try them now using your this method. Thanks.
Just came across this. Very nice tutorial. It is similar to Deb Tucker's instructions. I love her flying geese tools. Oversize it and trim. Very neat. She also has a nice web site and quilt gallery.

Thanks Cathy for sending me this link. This will come in very handy in the near future.

seeing all those lovely geese laying on your table...is like looking into a bakery shop window.
I'd far rather have fabric than sweets ;) Well done and thanks. Looking at how you've used them in your avatar makes me hungry for geese! Fabric ones... |
Love your tutorial. After reading it I looked around and found this chart that will help with the math.

Thanks cwessel47, I'll have to try this soon! Bonniemanley, if you copy and paste into a Word document, you can keep it that way for future use.
dgeskine, I tried saving and pasting into a word doc. The typing took, but none of the pictures would transfer. What am I doing wrong?
