I spent about 45 minutes looking for a pattern for this very item and I should have come to the board first. Thank you so much for sharing your talents, it is going to the top of the projects list.

I also attached one to my sewing machine table with double sided sticky tape. I also use scraps of my warm and natural batting on my swifter. Use both sides, and then discard.

Great tutorial! I am so glad you thought to share with us!<wave>

I wanna make some. What was the circumference of the circle?
|
4" have a look at the beginning, so easy to make, one word of warning, donīt use a thick fabric for it though.

This is wondeful! I can't wait to make one. I'm off to see if I have a 4" hoop! Thanks so much!
|
It took me a while but I did it!!! I didn't have a 4" embroidery hoop. Not a single margerine tub or any 4" dish in my extensive collection of little dishes. I was about to give up when I measured the top of my large iced coffee plastic cup from Dunkin Donuts, VOILA! I cut off the rim of the cup and it worked perfect. Then I wondered what kind of cardboard you used.... I tried an empty cereal box and it also worked! I used a polyester batting and followed your instructions and I have a real cute little folding thread catcher!!! I took a couple of pictures and I will post them in the picture file. Thanks so much Elle for posting this neat tutorial!!!!!

how interesting thank you :)

Here is the Thredcatcher that I made. It was really fun to make and I am amazed at how it works!
Here it is all folded up! Here it is standing up all by itself (just like magic!) |

Thanks so much for this tutorial! I really used what I had on hand. Only had a 6" hoop and a sheet of template plastic that I cut for the two circles. Since it was bigger around, I didn't think it needed to be as tall, so I made it 6" tall.
It works great and stands on its own. And still amazed that it will stand without collasping. Chris |
I was just going to ask about making it with something larger than 4". I saved the tops off of some of that Reese Potato Salad..I think its 4 1/2" diameter...so I'll have to just dive right in since yours worked so well!
|
Yep Patti works with all sizes, BUT just remember to make the fabric larger tooooooo and the base.
|
Ummm, yeah, THAT would be a good idea!
|
great idea, thanks for the tutorial
|
I made one the other night. I forgot to take a pic and gave it to my mom. I know I'll be making more so I'll take some then.
I used a sour cream container top and 5 1/2" circle of fabric (I wasn't sure about the 5 3/3" in the instructions) and mine seemed a little shorter. It took me about 3 hours to complete because of hand sewing, I couldn't figure out how to get it on my machine. :-( |
Unfortunately Mrs Shak it is a hand sewing project, but glad you are finding the tutorial good and making your own adjustments

 well thats for trying anyway lol
|
Yea! I got one made...love it! Thanks for sharing!
|
Great
|
Not sure what you made the ring out of.
|
The original uses a 4" embroidery hoop. I didnīt have one at the time so I used a piece of rubber tubing and joing it together with staples. Others have used the top of certain containers, just look for something that is 4" round
