thanks for the tut.

BettyGee 06-01-2011 04:53 PM

I spent about 45 minutes looking for a pattern for this very item and I should have come to the board first. Thank you so much for sharing your talents, it is going to the top of the projects list.

ktmo815 06-01-2011 04:57 PM

Please bare with me I have at least 7 pictures before I give the tutorial

I use these also with all my hand sewing...keep them in sewing machine case also....they come in handy. GF uses her embroidery machine with "threads go here" on the front, really cute.

Great tutorial! I am so glad you thought to share with us!<wave>

SassySewer53 08-01-2011 02:03 PM

I wanna make some. What was the circumference of the circle?

Butterflyspain 08-01-2011 02:22 PM

4" have a look at the beginning, so easy to make, one word of warning, donīt use a thick fabric for it though.

cmrenno 08-05-2011 03:52 PM

This is wondeful! I can't wait to make one. I'm off to see if I have a 4" hoop! Thanks so much!

cmrenno 08-08-2011 09:49 AM

It took me a while but I did it!!! I didn't have a 4" embroidery hoop. Not a single margerine tub or any 4" dish in my extensive collection of little dishes. I was about to give up when I measured the top of my large iced coffee plastic cup from Dunkin Donuts, VOILA! I cut off the rim of the cup and it worked perfect. Then I wondered what kind of cardboard you used.... I tried an empty cereal box and it also worked! I used a polyester batting and followed your instructions and I have a real cute little folding thread catcher!!! I took a couple of pictures and I will post them in the picture file. Thanks so much Elle for posting this neat tutorial!!!!!

baskets4moo 08-09-2011 09:56 AM

Thanks for the tute! I've been looking for instructions to make one of these for almost a year! I couldn't figure out what makes it work but now I know, its magic!!

Thanks so much for this tutorial! I really used what I had on hand. Only had a 6" hoop and a sheet of template plastic that I cut for the two circles. Since it was bigger around, I didn't think it needed to be as tall, so I made it 6" tall.
It works great and stands on its own. And still amazed that it will stand without collasping. Chris

sandpat 08-12-2011 01:18 PM

I was just going to ask about making it with something larger than 4". I saved the tops off of some of that Reese Potato Salad..I think its 4 1/2" diameter...so I'll have to just dive right in since yours worked so well!

Butterflyspain 08-12-2011 01:29 PM

Yep Patti works with all sizes, BUT just remember to make the fabric larger tooooooo and the base.

sandpat 08-12-2011 05:39 PM

Ummm, yeah, THAT would be a good idea!

Demshine 08-15-2011 02:02 PM

great idea, thanks for the tutorial

Mrs Shak 08-16-2011 04:27 AM

I made one the other night. I forgot to take a pic and gave it to my mom. I know I'll be making more so I'll take some then.
I used a sour cream container top and 5 1/2" circle of fabric (I wasn't sure about the 5 3/3" in the instructions) and mine seemed a little shorter. It took me about 3 hours to complete because of hand sewing, I couldn't figure out how to get it on my machine. :-(

Butterflyspain 08-16-2011 04:31 AM

Unfortunately Mrs Shak it is a hand sewing project, but glad you are finding the tutorial good and making your own adjustments

LOL I know, but I did try to get it on my machine to sew the band, lol.

Butterflyspain 08-16-2011 04:38 AM

 well thats for trying anyway lol

allbright 08-23-2011 08:15 AM

Yea! I got one made...love it! Thanks for sharing!

Butterflyspain 08-23-2011 09:22 AM

Great

Pam Perry 08-23-2011 05:38 PM

Not sure what you made the ring out of.

Butterflyspain 08-23-2011 10:57 PM

The original uses a 4" embroidery hoop. I didnīt have one at the time so I used a piece of rubber tubing and joing it together with staples. Others have used the top of certain containers, just look for something that is 4" round
