FREE magnetic pincushion
2 Attachment(s)
I discovered while at a quilt retreat at my sister's house that I love magnetic pin cushions. I like the fact that you can just lat the pins down and don't have to 'stick' in. One work of caution...don't keep one close to a computerized machine! It might not hurt it but why take the chance? Anyway...I wanted a magnetic pincushion, but I did not want to go shopping. So I fashioned one from things I had around the house. I liked it so much, I made another one to keep on my cutting table. And since I was making another one I decided to share the process with QB today! It only took about half an hour to make it!

I can't believe how many typos I let get thru...must be because I'm anxious to get sewing!!!
Neat idea, great tute! Thank you.
Thanks for doing the tute; I think I'll make some for gifts (besides one for myself!)
Very cute! Thanks for the tute.
Real nice idea and they will make great gifts. Thanks for the tute. And thanks for sharing.
Oh that is a great idea! I have one of those newer can openers that cut around the side edge instead of on the top and the lid fits back on perfectly, so I wouldn't have to find another lid to fit over the can, yay. I'm definitely going to make one+ of these ... now to find some magnets, LOL
Thanks for sharing! |
Very cute! You did a very nice job on the tute. Thank you for sharing. I am going to give this a try - for myself and as gifts for crafty friends.

dilyn, Thanks for a GREAT tute!!! I will make this for Sure, but I'm going to add something inside to give 'It' some weight so it can't tip over. :) Lori K.

That is a wonderful idea. I love my magnetic holders but they are costly. Thank you so much for the tutorial. I can always use another holder.

one question would those magnetic strips work as well??
p/s I wasn't looking for typo's and I do the same thing, my sons really tell me a thing or three when that happens,
Great idea! I love my magnetic pin holder, but can't find another for the cutting table. Guess I know what I'm doing this afternoon.
Thank you for the tut. I will be making this one now. lol
How clever you are -------------- thanks for showing us.
I was just thinking I need another one yesterday, I always tote mine room to room, and I love this idea! I can make a pretty one, instead of the utilitarian plastic looking ones I have.
Loved your tute, when I was a little girl my mom belonged to our schools PTA and they use to make pincushions using empty tuna cans, covered with cloth and they used foam for the cushion part, I remember her sitting and making these at the dinning room table to take to the sales. They put all kinds of decorations on them. This brought back memories.
I like yours because of the magnet, very clever. I will have to try one, thanks. |
You could also just use a cover, right? Cutting/covering cardboard/plastic for a base? Flat, slim. easy to carry...hmmmmm? Can it be done?
Love it! Very clever.
thanks for the tutorial cute idea love the pincushion

Thanks for the great idea and tut! I will be making some of these as gifts as well.
Don't worry about the typos. It shows how human we all are. Better to spend time on the sewing and crafts anyway. |
Thank you 4 sharing! So cute! My granddaughter will get a kick out of making these. Would be great mother's day gift to make with her church group to give to the mother's in church.
That is soo cute can't wait to make some! Wish I had new can opener then can use the lid!!
What an ingenious idea! The best part is you can recycle what you already have at home to make it and it seems fairly easy! Thanks for sharing!
Great idea and what a perfect gift for your quilter pal.
