What a clever inovative idea. Your tute is easy to understand as is your English. Thanks for sharing.

Katiequiltsalot 05-09-2011 04:58 AM

mountain deb 05-09-2011 05:07 AM

Oh, this is scary. I think you just started something, but a big thanks for this tip. I am from the old school of using it up before throwing it away. This just adds a few more hours usage out of the needles. Thanks.

redbugsullivan 05-09-2011 05:10 AM

I frequently sew using a treadle sewing machine. Some of the needles are very hard to find. This trick will extend the use of a great many needles!

Even if the needle is a wee bit shorter, extending it down a mm will solve 90% of any problem created. Thank you for sharing!

gunny148 05-09-2011 05:11 AM

0000 steel wool would do the trick, Wonder if it would work on pins???

debbieoh 05-09-2011 05:12 AM

jitkaau 05-09-2011 05:28 AM

El inglés son mejor que mi español – a pesar de que tenía granpartents español: gracias por el tutorial.

Lo utilizará como un cojín de pin para que nada se obtiene en la máquina.

rwquilts 05-09-2011 05:33 AM

Thank you all for the great ideas! I was thinking that taking the needle out and using it in the steel wool would be best...I always have SOS Pads around...will give this a try!

I think steel wool with out the soap would be a better choice. Find at hardware store by furniture refurnishing products. and I aggree -- stab don't sew.

Okay, this sounds like a great idea but how about....we take an older unwanted or orphan sock and just put the steel wool in the toe of the sock and pin it shut at the top....whalla, a Woolly Sock Needle sharpener!!!!! Sorry, love working on my latest quilt and wanted to save some more time to do that.

sfguimaraes 05-10-2011 09:50 AM

I'm using this tool just for several years and I've never had any problem with my sewing machine, ever. But, to be more confident, I've called yesterday my local Bernina assistant and he assured me it wouldn't cause any damage to my machine.
