How to draft a LeMoyne Star

4 Attachment(s)
1) Using gridded paper, draw a grid that is 7, 5, 5, and 7 units across, and 7, 5, 5, and 7 units down. It will look like an uneven 16-patch or an uneven 4 x 4 grid.

2) Connect Points A to A, B to B, C to C, and D to D.

3) Connect Points E to E, and F to F

The LeMoyne star is there!

4) Darken the lines so the design stands out more.

Is the diagram unfinished or am I just not getting it?

Thank you for looking to the "end."

The diagram is only partially "finished" to show which lines to darken and which to ignore.

I'm not sure that I understand how 7,5,5,7 fits what I'm seeing! Maybe I'm just dense

Those are the number of units I count on graph paper to make the grid to draw the star.

The "actual" ratios for a LeMoyne star grid are 1.000, square root of 2 divided by 2, square root of 2 divided by 2, and 1.000.

The numbers that go with that are 1.000, approximately 0.707, approximately 0.707, and 1.000

Using the numbers of 7, 5, 5, 7: 5 is approximately 0.714 of 7, which is a close enough approximation (for me) to 0.707 for the drafting I do of this type of design.
