I have a small Q-Snap PVC floor frame for quilting, but I have used this with a hoop only before I got the Q. I don't lap quilt, but this wouldn't work with lap quilting.. Sorry :) You just need 12 clips or clothes pins and something (table?) to lay it all on.

I fold the top in half then half again. I put a small clip or clothespin at the mid-point on all four sides. Do the same with the batting and then with the back.

Then I unfold the backing on the kitchen table and try to center it, but don't get too obsessed about it. Then put the batting on it and then the top. At this point, the clips should be pretty close. Line them up and then clip all three layers together in the center with one clip. You can also clip the corners, but with my round table, I really couldn't do that. You could put several clips around the edge and it wouldn’t hurt it.

Then I put the center of the sandwich on my floor rack. I make sure everything is smooth and taut before I make a stitch. I like to do the center in the floor frame, then work on the rest with the hoop. I usually have 2 projects going that way!

And that’s pretty much it. I do work from the center out, and make sure there are no puckers in the hoop when I move it around the quilt.

I’ve never had a problem with it when I do it this way. It took me about 10-minutes from ironing board to quilt rack yesterday for a full-sized quilt.

Sounds like this really works for you! Now if I had a frame!

Thanks for sharing this. Later this week, I plan to tack (tie-off) a red, white, and blue quilt for my brother, and I'll try this.

Wish I could see you do it. Sounds
great. I am a visual learner.

I watched the boards method on you tube and plan to give it a try when I sandwich my next quilt. It looked fairly simple.
