Thanks for the chart and the correction! This is really helpful.

I was just wondering - do you have a chart for this you could share? I buy patterns from all over and sometimes have to convert the measurements and it would be great to have this in a chart![/QUOTE]

I know there are sites that one can access for the equivalents. Here is one of them:
http://www.metric-conversions.org/le...-to-meters.htm

Does fabric come in the same width in Canada as in the United States - even though it is labeled with the metric measurements.

Are you asking for something like?

1 yard = 36 inches = 0.9144 meters

I can do a chart like that if that is the format that would work for you.

Not Really .... sorrym JanieH!!
I usually just go with one meter is approx 40" and then do the math.
(in reality it is 39.3701" ... but whose counting! :))

Or you can look at it as one meter is a yard plus 3" inches approx.

More so, we see patterns in yards. I don't mind buying extra, so if it calls for 2 yards, I just buy 2 metres and have a safety factor built in!

We still have a lot of stores that will sell fabric in either metres or yards ... our choice!
It doesn't matter to me which ... just make sure that it is cut right and charged right.

Just took a quick look and here's one conversion chart I found.
I am sure there are lots more, if you google.

Here's another where you can fill in the blanks for yards to metres; metres to yards; and price conversions from yards to metres.
http://www.sewfancy.com/yardMeter.htm

Please note: I have not verified either of these, to ensure their accuracy.

good info...guess everyone is not like me...no matter how much I need...I cannot buy less than 1/2 yard and if I need a 1/2 yard I buy 1 yard....always afraid I will not have enough and/or cut something wrong....lol
