1. After opening, you will see a tip box. You can keep reading tips there, or you can hit CLOSE.
2. You will see a Project box. You can type in a name for the quilt project you will be making, look for a quilt you have previously made, or get a quick quilt project. 3. Your screen should look something like this: 4. Go the the Library dialog box, and click Block Library. Scroll down the list until you find a category that you would like to look at. Click a block and it will become outlined in blue. After it is outlined, click the Add to Sketchbook button. (The scroll button goes from left to right.) You can add as many blocks as you would like. I like to put several in at once, and when I am done, I can look at the selected blocks more critically before I make my final selection. 5. If you would like to select more than one block at a time, press the CTRL button on your keyboard. Click: Add to Sketchbook 6. If you would like to select a row or section of blocks, press the SHIFT button on your keyboard. Click the first and then, the last item that you would like to select. Click: Add to Sketchbook 7. If you would like to select a whole category, click CTRL+A. Click: Add to Sketchbook8. When you are finished, click the Close button on the right hand at the bottom of the Library..9. Now, you will click the View Sketchbook button. When the Sketchbook opens, make sure that you have the Blocks section selected. You can see the View Sketchbook button on the screen. It is the 2nd of the 2 red books on the top bar. It is located to the left of the Sketchbook, at the top corner 10. Click on one block to use, and then, click the Edit button. I have chosen the Shoo Fly block, and it is now located on my Work Table in black and white. 11. If you would like to see the block in the colors that EQ has chosen, click the Color button at the bottom of the Work Table. Notice the Fabric and Colors Palette to the right. 12. To change the colors of your block, click a Fabric or a Color, click on it. Then, using your mouse, click on the spaces that you would like to change. You can switch them as many times as you want. Just so you know, the applications shown here will also work on the other selections in the Library section. 13. The block and fabrics can be saved as often as you change them. Do you remember the View Sketchbook button you clicked earlier? (See step #9) The View Sketchbook button is the right red book on the top bar. The Add to Sketchbook button is the book on the left. With your block on the Work Table, click the Add to Sketchbook button. If you want to see where you saved it, click the View Sketchbook button.14. In my Sketch Book, I have selected the Shoo Fly block again. It shows that I have 3 colorings of the block in the book. If you would like to see the three, click on the tiny arrows to the left and bottom of the blocks that are shown. If you do this on your block, you will be able to see all of the colorings you have made, the coloring that EQ chose, a grey-scale block, and a line-drawing of the block without any coloring. Nice job, Judy! I only wish I had the EQ so I could actually experiment. I think your directions are clear and easy to understand. Thanks, Connie

Thank you very much  I have EQ7 but haven't had time to tinker in it - this will help me greatly I am sure
Thank you! I am getting EQ7 for Christmas and I'm sure this will really come in handy
Great tutorial, Judy ... I can see I'm finally going to learn how to work my EQ!!
Thank you Judy. Have waited a while for this post. Am with you so far.
I'm sorry I'm late with the tutorial. Have been making Christmas quilts. I also have written on my blog: http://goldendogquilting.blogspot.com about EQ add-ons and stand-alones. If you are interested in what the difference is and the other kinds of products EQ offers, you can read about them there. In the next day or two, I'll write another tutorial about printing on EQ.
Thanks Judy!! Very helpful tutorial.
btw you left out the L in quilting in your link. But the one in your signature works.
Thanks for this and for adding the link to the other thread.
Thanks for letting me know about my mistake- I fixed it.
Sometimes, I don't see very well. My sister was driving me in our little one street town, and I saw a sign that said "Quilting Business Sale". I was so excited that our new town had a quilt shop. But the next time I saw the sign, it actually said "Quitting Business Sale". I was so disappointed! |
LOL..Judy. I've done that exact thing before. Since that space will soon be vacant, maybe you need to open your own quilt store there!
thanks!

What is the EQ? Because I would love to try this out. :)
EQ means Electric Quilt. It is a software program for your computer, and it allows you to design your own blocks/quilts, edit images for quilts, and includes a block library, fabric library, thread library, etc. Go to electricquilt.com and you can see the program details.
Did you every find out what EQ was? If not, it is a program for your computer that helps you design your own quilts, I use my to help with my stash, so that I can use my stash up so I can buy more material. HA HA
Judy, thanks for the tut on how to use EQ, I bought EQ7 when it came out last year, and I hadn't got around to figuring it out very well, but with your tut I was able to draw up a quilt layout and get the fabric requirements. Thanks, I look forward to more lessons from you.

I have added another tutorial, this one is for EQ5. Am still working on one for 6 & 7. This one teaches how to import fabrics into your program, so you can design with them. Please let me know if there are any problems with this tute.
