What if you cut a circle larger than the spool, punched a hole in the center and glued it to the bottom of the spool?

Necessity is the mother of invention (or so I've heard) Great solution to a problem we have all shared. I solved it by using a sleeve on the spool. that works too

Good idea. Thanks for sharing.
I just cut out the narrowest part of a ladies stocking, then slip it over the spool with the thread coming out the top. Works perfectly!
