Lining up dots and stripes on borders.
7 Attachment(s)
I recently posted a baby quilt in Pictures - "So fun to do a baby quilt!!!" and received many compliments! Thanks to all! Will probably work with striped fabric, too?
Several of you asked how I managed to line up the little hexagon (called "dots' in this tute). So here it is: Each strip of the border must be cut at the same place. Here they are cut next to the line of yellow/green dots. At the end of the first strip you will add the next strip. Fold the end of this new one to the back on a 45° angle and press for a sharp fold. With the corner folded under, line up the patterns on the top side - Do Not Mark - picture marked to shows the alignment. Unfold carefully and pin the corners. Sew along the diagonal fold and trim the corner. Press the seam open (I do it open anyway!) Press from the top and you are done!! Good Luck and Enjoy! Tried to delete attachment - sorry! |
Very nicely done.

Adorable and well worth the extra effort. Thanks.

Great tip. Thanks

great tute, thanks for your time.

Thank you, you made it look easy !

Great tute! I've done something similar, although on the straight fold, not on the diagonal. Instead of pinning, I use a glue stick to place a narrow strip of glue on the fold to keep it from moving while stitching.

Thanks for the tute!

Great description. What I've done in the past is use Elmers Glue to line and keep them in place, stitch down and proceed. Most times this works but occasionally it would shift if I didn't put down enough glue.

Great tute! Thanks for posting!

I also would press the seam open. An opened seam in a "patch" will not show as much as one pressed to the side. The "pressed-to-one-side" seam will have a little shadow no matter how well it is pressed. |
Thank you! Great method!

Thanks for taking the time to show your technique. You made it very clear!!!

Thank you SO MUCH for sharing how to do this!!! I have had a quilt top done for a year, but have not known how to line up the border print and have very little fabric to spare. Now maybe I can get it done!

This is great. Thanks!
