Making quilt labels using your computer and inkjet printer.

I am inspired by reading Boston 1954 label information, and now have a better idea of the information which I could include for the quilts I make. Thanks Boston 1954!
Here is my process for making labels. I make my labels for the quilts, using my computer and using windows along with the paint program. I find a picture from my own files, or on the internet sometimes the free webshots site have great pictures, save the picture to my computer, then open with the paint program, and make changes which allow me to make it more personal, by inserting text, resizing the label so it will fit nicely on the quilt. Changing the color of the background or the text. When I have finished all the text on the label, need to save it to my computer, so I can make more changes if necessary Then I cut a plain piece of cotton fabric 8.5 x 11 inches which I have soaked in bubblejet, dried and ironed onto the wax side of freezer paper - which has also been, cut to letter size as indicated above, then I can run it through my inkjet printer - Laser printers will not work. Peel off the paper and press to set the ink. Turn over the edges and stitch onto the quilt back. |
what is bubblejet? I would like to try this. thank you.

Thank you for sharing this.

This is a wonderful idea. Thank you.

Has anyone made one, long enough ago, to figure out if the labels last? I usually do approximately the same thing but hand embroider the words.
|
Bubblejet is a chemical that sets the ink into the fabric so the fabric can be washed.

I have some dated 2003, and they look great. That was back in the day when I had an ink jet. Now I have a laser, and I am stuck hand writing or embroidering them. Yuck

Great idea! I have some fabric sheets that are made to go through an inkjet printer but I'm afraid to try it due to worrying about the ink running after washing the completed quilt.
|
Thanks for the info will have to try this when I find out what kind of printer have.
|
Theink has not run on the ones I have done.

I just happened into this post and saw my name. Glad to be of help on your labels. They put mine to shame. Wow! They are gorgeous. Isn't it fun taking an idea from another person, and going a bit further? That is so neat.
|
Those are gorgeous labels! And good idea to mention what it's made of.

I have made a lot of labels with the June tailor colorfast made for inkjet printers, but after multiple washing they do fade. I have looked for the bubblejet but haven't been able to find it. Can you tell us where to find it? Thanks.

Bubblejet is made in the USA, and they have a website, where you can get further information, just click on the following :

test your laser printer to see whether it will feed fabric on freezer paper.
if it does print a test photo and then wash it. my color laser prints washable not-too-shabby prints on fabric. no need for bubble jet set. i can't say for sure whether or not every toner on the market will do the same. but the "for-reals" brother toner for my printer does work. |
