Sally in Fla, I was fortunate enough to have a really fine quilting instructor for my first 3 years as a quilter. IMHO, the reason quilting remains a vibrant art form has a great deal to do with the willingness of most quilters to share their knowledge freely. I had lots of help and I try to pass it on.

I make scrappy's without a foundation to it.

I just take scraps and start sewing them together and when I think it's big enough I start cutting it down to size.

Now I take my scrappy's that are sewed and make rag quilts with them. I recently made one and everyone locally and here online like it.

I've got orders to make those scrappy rag quilts and was also just asked to teach a class on it at one of the guilds. Who knew it would be such a big thing.

BY THE WAY this is a great tutorial. Enjoyed reading it.

I love those scrappys! Thanks for sharing a wonderful idea. What's really strange is that I recognize a lot of your fabrics. Looks like my scrap stash. lol! I really like the idea of starting with an odd shape and building on it. Wonderful idea!

I am so sorry for your loss. Quilting is great therapy from experience. :)

I really like scrappy quilts and this technique but I struggle with getting all these square sof batting together and the weight and bulk from the finnished quilt. Any tips? I use Warm and Natural batting.

Love your idea but how do you sew blocks together...do you add sashing, or do you sew the actual blocks together and if so, dowsn't this make for very thick seams ?
