I love your block and am in the process of trying it out! Did you press the seams open rather than the traditional "to the dark side"? I did my fist block traditionally but wonder if the center would lay flatter if I pressed the seams open. Thanks for the block tutorial and the help.

I love this block too. Has anyone figured out what size squares to start with to have a 12 1/2" unfinished block?

I finished a table square using four of the blocks this afternoon. I will try to get a picture posted tomorrow. A fun block to make.

No, but I would think you could start with any size you would like. I think the 12 1/2 is a good size. BUT with all the cuts to make it a 12" finished you would have to start with little bit larger size.

Beautiful! What an awesome idea! Did you make this pattern up yourself? Great tute too, I really wanna make this one!
Ooppsss never mind I just re-read your post and found what I was looking for... got so excited I forgot to read your post.

Awesome, thanks.

For the step where you cut 1 1/4", that's 1 1/4" from the CENTER, right? I was confused at first

Looking at this, I think you have varied the method a bit. You moved your two tone strips counterclockwise within the block, rather than rotating each one 180 degrees in its own spot? Both variations look great - hurrah for evolution!
