Do you cut 1 1/4" measuring from the from the center? Or measuring from the edge? Looks like the center from the pics.

How did you get your points in the center to match up perfectly and lay so flat??!! Mine are horrible. I sewed from the outer edge to the center when sewing the triangles together and I wasn't sure whether to press the seam open or to one side? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!! I tried to upload a picture of my block but it wouldn't.

What is the size of the end result using the charm packs. Tried to figure it out but got lost after the third cut.

Love the tutorial. thanks a million.

Do you have this in a PDF i can download and keep?

clhw2 05-13-2013 06:37 AM

I saw this tutorial this morning, referred by a post from Cyberquilters, joined the group and made 4 of the blocks. I was hoping to post a picture, but couldn't figure out how in my time frame, so here is a link if anyone would like to see my blocks: http://wraggedypatches.blogspot.com/...-pinwheel.html

cindyg19 05-20-2013 01:35 PM

It's beautiful. But I know I will need to follow your tutorial for the first few blocks. It looks very intricate, but I think with following the instructions, I can do it. And I have a number of charm packs, including solids, so I should be able to make it w/o having to buy anything else. How do you think it will look using layer cakes?

owlvamp 05-21-2013 03:39 AM

Beautiful will have to try this out.

Zappycat 05-22-2013 04:07 AM

That's a great idea! Please come back and show us your blocks all sewn together! I am dying to see the finished product now!

WOW... that was clever... I guess one could mix and match two different pinwheels and ... and... the combinations are endless... thank you!...:)

CookieZenmilk 09-20-2013 02:28 PM

patdick 09-24-2013 11:08 AM

that is great , how many 5 inch blocks do I need to make a lap top ?TIA

Sandrea 04-24-2014 09:58 AM

I was just wondering....if I wanted to make this quilt in 4 colors, (2 darks and 2 lights) to make a standard size quilt top, how much fabric should I buy in each of the 4 colors. Charm packs usually have many different colors, so I would cut my own squares but I have no idea how much fabric to purchase. Can anyone help me?

Bear with me as I type out the math.
A charm pack is 42 - 5inch squares so you would get 8 from each 5" strip, so your looking at about 30 inches x WOF of each colour. Personally would just get the yard of each to make sure I had extras, more if you wanted to use some of it in the borders.

Sandrea 04-25-2014 07:42 AM

Thanks so much for the reply. One more question....does that mean that if I buy 1 yd. of each of the 4 colors...that would be equal to 4 charm packs? Not sure if that is what is needed to make a standard size quilt (4 charm packs). Thanks again for the help. I will give it a try.

sewingsuz 04-25-2014 04:35 PM

Thanks. I think you should let jenny know! You can be in the next Block book.

What size are the charm pack pieces. Also can you use other sizes such as a six and one-half? I love the modified 4-patch you created.

charm packs are typically 5 inch squares. but as long as you did the math you could use any size squares to begin with.

jhoward 06-27-2016 05:01 PM

Wonderful to see the pictures, easy to follow. Thank you.

Welcome here...I appears that you are a new member....suggestion: Missouri star quilt company has many tutorials on charms, layer cakes, jelly rolls (all precuts). These can be viewed either via their website or you tube. If you haven't already seen them...great place to start....

I know this is an old thread, but I just want to say "Great block!" I have a batik layer cake in blues and golds that is just *crying* for this. But I can't start until I finish the current project, put the borders on two other tops, and finish at least 1 UFO. :(
