Tell her to check into quiltuniversity.com. I am taking a class there now. I have learned so much! The instructor is verry helpful and friendly!

I'm teaching myself, pretty much online. Of course, I receive great help on this site, but also have found great tutorials for almost every stage of the quilting process by "Google-ing" the step I want to see. I've used video tutorials, but also love picture tutorials.

Try the tutorials on Missouri Star Quilt Company. I think there even quilting lessons by Jenny there. She's very good; and, of course, you can go over and over something you don't get. I love their video tutorials.

In addition to the above, how about this:

There's a beginner's link on the first page.

I would recommend a book by Eleanor Burns. One of her simple patterns woudl be perfect and she has great step by step directions with good illustrations.

For FMQ, they have lots of good videos on you tube, just type in machine quilting

YouTube and How To Quilt sites are great.

I am going to 2nd QuiltUniversity. the beginners class they have is awesome. I was worried about not "getting" it but the instructor made it very clear. It gave me the basics.

Besides the vast info you can get from blogs/forums like this one, youtube is a big source of many many videos that show you how to do step by step. Also through youtube i got to know Missouri Star Quilt Company in which Jenny the instructor/ i guess also owner and her daughter do excellent tutorials that are really easy to do.

Good luck

I agree. She has a lot of short cuts and her books are extremely easy to follow.
