I need to find some tracing paper today and go at this again. I'm thinking of a simpler piece and work my way into the harder ones just so it doesn't get frustrating. Still want to do the "Fly Foot" so I'm giving that a shot today (my day off) and see how it goes.

I've never taken any of your posts as "being a braggart" either Steve. You're proud of your work! You SHOULD be. We should ALL be proud of what we do. I've shown a couple of things here too, and honestly, it feels really good to get some positive feedback and compliments from others who share the joy of my chosen art form.

OK, so I know it hasn’t always had negative connotations, but when I got this patch, the Fly’s Foot, together I was heartbroken; it turned out a swastika. You’d think I’d have seen it in the pattern but I didn’t and feel sick about spending time on something I sincerely dislike. Anyway, the piecing went well so I guess that’s one good thing. I just feel like I’ve been had, even if it is in paisley. :(

Steve, you did a great job on it :D If the swastica design bothers you, if you ripped it out to the 4 basic blocks and rearranged them, you may find a more pleasing design......

There are histories about most of the traditional blocks and flyfoot is no exception. I found the following quote at

One heritage pattern is known alternatively as the 'Flyfoot Swastika' or the 'Devil’s Puzzle', which shows that the icon of the swastika was used long, long before it was adopted as the symbol of the Nazi party in Germany.

I personally will never make the flyfoot block but I'm sure our grandmothers of years back probably did! Just mark it down to a history lesson.

thanks for the demo. i keep hearing about paper piecing and am scared to death of it. but now i may be able to give it a try. i read patterns pretty good as far as crocheting goes. but this one through me for a loop until now. when i can't understand what i am reading it is best if i watch someone. this helps me dearly. when i try this i will let you know if i had problems. thaks so much. if i get this square down, then there is a xmas tree skirt i want to accomplish. jeanette

Steve, I agree with you on the outcome. Beautiful block. But I've also discarded several pinwheel layouts for the same reason.
