really easy way to make perfect corner triangles. Watch the video. I was impressed, especially the way it saves fabric. sorry, here is the link. http://perfectcornerruler.com/

I avoid cutting triangle before sewing. Much more stable sewing a square in place. I also sew the "spare" HST while I'm chain piecing.

Ruler makes it look easy. Thank you

Ok, it looks like a good idea, but I'm not convinced on how much fabric it actually saves. You are still cutting away part of your square and throwing it away. The squares you make and cut in half are cut larger than the squares you cut using the square sewn onto a square and trim away method. You trim off the excess and throw it away and have one little triangle from the base fabric left that may or may not be usable. I also find it hard to be accurate when cutting my squares in half from corner to corner. I waste fabric when my ruler is not positioned just right.

Honestly, I'd rather use the two-whole squares method, because I've found that to be much more accurate for me and I carefully trim off the triangle corners (which are now exactly the same size). If they are large enough to do anything with, I sew them together to make little mug rugs, pot holders, or doll quilts with them. Then I'm not throwing anything away. If they are not large enough to do anything with and I need to throw then away, I've not wasted much.

That's just my opinion. I'm not trying to throw cold water on someone's invention.

Perfectcornerruler.......love it! I hate to waste fabric....thanks for sharing :-D

Ceil 07-30-2011 09:56 AM

I find it very difficult to sew on those squares and end up with a perfectly square corner. I'm willing to give this a try. Thank you!

dphelps 07-30-2011 10:40 AM

Looks really precise and worth a try! Where do you get one?

Homemother 07-30-2011 06:06 PM

I really could have used this technique when I made my last quilt! It had 33 snowball blocks. Definitely bookmarking!!!

they have them at quilt in a day. They are only 14.95

joyce888 07-30-2011 06:41 PM

WHY! WHY! WHY! did I not hear about this before I just finished making 168 flying geese - which by the way is one of my most hated blocks!!! I ordered it and thanks to the person who tipped me off about Quilt-In-A-Day and the coupon. Total with shipping $12.88. I will post my results when I test it.

sewaholic 07-30-2011 08:35 PM

Sounds good. Yes I'm a gadget/ruler junkie too.
Sick of corners ending up crooked and a little bit short. Will have to try this. Thanks for the hint of putting in the code.

Happy Linda 07-31-2011 06:29 AM

Looks like a good ruler to me. It's always nice to have the calculations right in front of you.

Thanks for posting this tute... Nicely explained and I think it would be a very accurate way to do those triangles...

Lilrain 11-04-2011 12:21 PM

I bought one of these rulers and think I will love it, just have a bot of learning to do before i am totally comfortable with it

pjk0326 11-04-2011 07:08 PM

Gosh, I am just not "getting it". Why do you have to buy this ruler? Can't one just use a regular triangle ruler and cut a triangle a tad bigger than needed and then trim it? I have an Easy Angle ruler and don't see why I can't just use that. Am I missing something?
