Wonderful project! Thanks for sharing!

Janis 10-21-2011 06:07 AM

That is such a great way to use the canisters. Now I can think of others that might work this way. I love the using of a drawer as a guide for the cutting of the box, as otherwise, I wouldn't be able to get it straight.
Thanks again!

Bebbysews 10-21-2011 06:27 AM

That is just so darn cute that I've got to try making it. Thanks for the great tutorial. Well done!

Thanks again!

That was exactly the problem! If you don't cut the top edge exactly straight, it won't close again. Scissors will not give you that nice straight edge! And just running a razor knife on a drawn line will give you a wavy edge at best. But holding the blade flush against the top edge of the drawer and turning it gives you a clean straight edge that does the trick. Of course, you can make it any height you want, even leaving it as it is. But I wanted to disguise the fact that it was an oatmeal container, so I had to cut it down. Plus I think the shorter height is handier for its purpose. It makes it look "cute" and not quite so top-heavy.

Thanks for the Posting. I was so engrossed in ready the replies of those who could not find your tutorial. I by the way was in the same boat. It was welcome comice relief for the day. :0)

PS My dad used to keep the plastic rings so my boys could play ring toss when they visited.

Seasaw2mch contacted me because she made a PDF of the tutorial. I am posting it here and am hoping that it can be moved to the beginning where it can be found easily and downloaded. She really did a great job on the PDF! Thank you Seasaw2mch!

lizzy 10-22-2011 04:55 AM

Great Tutorial. I always have oatmeal canisters on hand. Wondered what way I could use them. Thanks.

sew1096 10-22-2011 01:13 PM

You are so clever KastleKitty.

I use a lot of oatmeal. Unfortuneately I just threw out a container! But I'm definitely saving all the rest.

And I like the idea of using the full size for UFO projects. I have some cross stitch and small crochet projects that would fit perfectly.

Thanks for sharing.

lfstamper 10-22-2011 01:17 PM

Quilting friends, I told my daughter about QB and sent her links to see what I am doing. She sent me pics of the sewing kit I made for her over 4 years ago to post! LOL This one I made before I had aspirations of quilting and I used scraps from garment construction, hence the subdued solids instead of prints. Everything was hand sewn.

sherylb 12-01-2011 08:53 AM

KastleKitty, that is so sophisticated ! I love it!
